A Learnt Approach for the design of magnetically actuated shape forming soft tentacle robots

A new paper from the STORM Lab UK was presented at Robosoft 2020 and is now included in the July 2020 issue of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, it describes the concept, fabrication and design methodology of a new fully shape forming magnetic catheter or “magnetic tentacle”. The tentacle design is achieved using supervised learning of a synthetically generated dataset of Finite Element Simulations.

It is anticipated that these magnetically actuated, shape forming catheters will mark a step improvement in patient safety and comfort during navigation for endoscopic procedures.
